Cycling the length and breadth of Britain, climbing five peaks or wild camping for a few nights may be achievable for some, but there are many of us that could never undertake such adventures even if we’d love to. Work, family, health, money, and time are just some of the constraints that the average family juggles on a daily basis, meaning that our outdoor time needs to be practical, accessible and most importantly fun for us all. Because who wants to add another chore to their list?
About Getting Out is a collaborative space for families to share their practical ideas, real experiences and views on getting kids outside. You can read more about what we hope to achieve here. Anyone can be a contributor, and everyone is welcome. If you’ve got an idea, an opinion or an activity to share then drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
We’re interested in hearing about anything that encourages kids outdoors, or about any barriers that prevent them getting out. Please see below for some ideas of the sort of article we are looking for.
The About Getting Out site has four broad categories.
PLAY: we are interested in anything to do with playing outside. ‘Top 10’ style ideas lists are popular with readers
CREATIVE: Any creative outdoor ideas. e.g. Arts, Crafts, Gardening, Photography, Den Building
EXPLORE: Outdoor activities that encourage you to learn, search, investigate. e.g. Nature based, Sports, Treasure hunting, Community based
HOT TOPIC: News and Opinions. Barriers to getting outside – do you hate going to the park after school because of the ‘school gate politics’, are you affected by accessibility issues, or do you worry about kids playing out alone. Maybe you just don’t enjoy being outside. And positives – benefits of spending time outdoors, fitness, mental health, making friends.
So please do pop over to the site, check out how to submit an article and say hi. We’d love to have your support and we’d be delighted if you joined in.
