I am fanatical about kids being taught to cook. I believe it is one of the most important life skills that you can pass on to your children, and many of my childhood memories involve my brother and I watching our Mum cook, and learning to cook ourselves.
Egg and Bacon Spaghetti, which is a simplified version of a great Italian classic, is a big favourite in our household. Our nickname for it is ‘Everyone loves it Spaghetti’, as it is the one meal that every visiting child has eaten without complaint, which, as all of you with kids will know, is close to miraculous.

It is super simple and quick to make so perfect for kids to cook. I have put the quantities that the kids used on this occasion, but it is very forgiving so adapt it to suit yourself. Generally we just throw in a handful of cheese and a dollop of cream. We’ve made it before with Cheddar, Parmesan, and Pecorino; all taste great. Likewise we’ve substituted the bacon with ham, cooked sausage and smoked salmon in the past (in which case you needn’t fry it first). It is also rather lovely with a few peas or baby broad beans thrown in.
How to Make Egg and Bacon Spaghetti
We used
- 6 rashers of streaky bacon
- 100g of cheddar cheese
- about 40mls of cream
- an egg
- 200 g of fresh spaghetti.
The kids had planned on just the two of them eating it, but Daddy turned up just as it was ready, so they had to share with him. So I would say that these quantities feed 2-3 depending on how piggy you are feeling!
Wash your hands, put a large pan of water on to boil, cut up the bacon and grate the cheese.
Crack the egg into a bowl, pick out the shell, and give it a good whisk with a fork.
Mix in the cream, and throw in whatever cheese you are using.
Fry the bacon until golden, and add your spaghetti to the boiling water with a pinch of salt.
When the spaghetti is cooked, drain (you may need an adult to help) and return to the pan. Mix in your cooked bacon, and then your egg mixture.
Stir together until you can no longer see the grated cheese. The heat from the pasta will melt the cheese and cook the egg. Serve with extra cheese and season with salt and pepper if desired!

Just made this for me and my daughter, went down a treat. If you like pasta and cheese this is the dish for you
I am so pleased you enjoyed it William – it’s such a quick and easy dish. Thank you for letting us know you tried it :)
Ok, I actually want to come go over to yours now and have a taste! Looks scrumptious and my family loves pasta too! And it would be fun if my kids could help and then Daddy can clean up LOL. Thanks for sharing.
You’d be very welcome :) My kids love cooking it, although I sadly haven’t managed to train hubby to do dishes yet!
This looks fantastic. I am a big fan of pasta and of creamy cheese sauces, so it ticks all the boxes.
Thank you for linking up, Tracey xx #abitofeverything
It really is yummy, and is so easy to throw together. I nearly always have cheese, eggs and bacon lurking in the fridge so its our ‘go to tea’ when I just want something easy to cook :)
*#HowtoSunday, was thinking about tomorrow while writing! Xx
Looking forward to linking up tomorrow as well x
I love this, simple enough to make, but still requires some effort on the kids part. I need to make more of an effort with O to involve him in making dinner and more savoury items rather than just cakes!
Thanks for linking up to #Whatevertheweather :) x
It is really good getting them cooking savoury dishes as well. Thanks for having us on both your great linkys x

Wow this looks great! My girls would love it and it looks like the bigger ones could do this themselves! I think we’ll be trying this really soon!
It is a really great simple recipe – my kids love that they can cook it without me telling them what to do. Thanks for having me on #KidsintheKitchen x
