Our Own Custom Made Map

by Sarah - Craft Invaders

I only recently discovered that Ordnance Survey offer Custom Made maps, and I have to say I think they are a genius idea! I can recall countless times when we have ended up carrying 2 maps to get the map coverage we want. Even our house is located right on one edge of our standard OS map, meaning we have to alternate between 2, depending on whether we plan to walk east or west.

A custom made map allows you to choose your own centre point, scale and can even customise the cover with your own images and wording. A brilliant way to introduce kids to map reading, and a fabulous, original gift.

OS Custom Made maps totally solves that problem by making you your own unique map. You choose your own centre point, scale and can even customise the cover with your own images and wording. Being able to put ourselves at the centre of our map has really increased the kid’s interest in maps. Their whole world can pretty much be found on our map – they can locate their school, friend’s houses and the routes they take when we walk the dog, or go out on their bikes. Suddenly studying a map has relevance to them, and they love it.

We also think that a Custom made map is a fabulous idea for a gift. Everyone likes to think that world revolves around them, and with their unique map, it will. A perfect gift for Father’s day, or as a house warming present, it’s something that the recipient can use for years to come – you can even choose whether your map comes folded or flat with options for framing.

We are thrilled with our Craft Invaders map, I love having the image of the kids on the front, and it is something we will cherish for years. We are delighted, therefore, to be able to offer one of our readers the chance to win an OS Custom Made map of their own through the rafflecopter giveaway below. We will provide the winner with a code which will allow them to order their own Custom Made map worth £16.99 including UK delivery. Please note that although we are happy for any of our readers to enter our giveaway, Ordnance Survey only provide Custom Made mapping of the UK, and this offer only includes free delivery to the UK. I would choose the Explorer 1:25 000 map – after seeing these on your website we purchased one as a gift and they are absolutely brilliant, the recipient was thrilled – the front cover was personalised with a photo from his home when he was younger. Would love to win one for us to use around our local area. Thank you very much.

I would choose a 1:25 000 scale to get enough detail for walks in our area.

This is such a brilliant idea. Our daughters are 7 & 9 and are teaching both to map read.

I would choose the OS Explorer 1: 25 000 scale because it shows more detail and my family would find it fascinating to see what is in our local neighbourhood and plan some new walks.

That is a super brilliant idea. I wish they would do something like this here, my Dad who has everything that money can buy, lives on a large estate and this would be the ideal gift for someone like him. Maybe Ordnance Survey will branch out to South Africa ;-)

It is a brilliant gift for the man who has everything, isn’t it. I’m sure the OS surveyors would love to spend a few months in SA!
